Salisbury is the largest town in Rowan County. Salisbury is noted for its Historic Homes and it’s colleges. Catawba College, Livingston and Rowan Cabarrus Community Colleges are all within the city limits.
The downtowm offers a mix of business and apartments on Main and side streets. There is a thriving arts community located around Easy Street. The Meroney Theatre features plays with live actors known as the Piedmont Players. There is also a new Norvelle Theatre which allows children to act. Coffee houses in the downtown offer live entertainment with music and comedy.
Rowan Public Library offers programs for children and adults. It is also well know for it’s genealogy room. It also offers a meeting room for small groups when it is not being used for informative programs for the public. It has several branches in smaller towns around the county.
Our Southern Heritage shows in the many churches located here. You will likely find a denomination of your choice. There are Lutheran, Baptist, Presbyterian, Episcopal, Methodist, Catholic, Reformed, Seventh Day Adventist, Pentecostal, AME, and non-denominational as well as independent and Jehovah’s Witness and others. Amtrak has a station located on Railroad Street. The old train station has been preserved and receptions and large gatherings are now held there on a regular basis.
There are small parks located all around town where you can sit and rest or just go for a walk. More active parks are located on the edges of town and farther out in the county. Dan Nicholas Park offers camping, an animal park, a large fishing lake, miniature golf, a children’s playground, a gem mine and many other activities. There are parks with softball and soccer fields, Frisbee golf and tennis courts. It is not hard to find lots of activities in Rowan County.
